Fragile

This offering by saxophonist Stefano Bedetti offers some wonderful new compositions, along with some great and original playing by everyone. The first tune "Un Nuovo Inverno” is somewhat hypnotic with repeated melodic phrases and an occasional 4 on the floor bass drum, then it turns into minor mode blowing… So much expression in the way Stefano plays the melodic phrases, it just draws you in, then the long solo at the end swirls you around!
"Ballad To The Silence" is somewhat mysterious and circular in motion, but lovely at the same time. Stefano plays a heartfelt solo through some forward-moving chord changes after a nice lyrical piano solo, the melody returns with passion, and ends on a tight high note, like walking across a wire high off the ground!
“Close Calls” is kind of avant-bebop mode. A great solo with his big Italian sound! A minor blues along with “in the pocket” playing. An expressive piano solo leads into a vamped, burning drums solo and fiery melody: Wow!
"Ferrets in the Sunset" sets the tone for a bare desert scene with the sun darkening the shadows of dunes of sand, topped with the desert wind creating constant movement. That big tenor sound leads into a great bass solo and short final melodic statement with strength.
"Di Neve Lenzuola” minor mode with a lot of tension in some of the melody, but it gets more relaxed in the extended bridge with some lovely padded colorful chords and soulful soloing. The chords move in ways that surprise the listener but are relaxing at the same time, under a burning tenor solo. A great melody returns over a vampy “Mysterioso” feel, fading on into this sunset.
"Samba Per Chi” is a great way to end the recording. Completely original melody which could only have been composed by Stefano. The bass solo lays right in that samba “pocket”. This is a totally original reflection of Brazilian Music and is a great way to leave the listener dancing out the door into the street and right into Carnival!
I have to stress the originality of this whole album, it draws on settings we are familiar with, but every setting is altered and played in a most refreshing manner and style! Congratulations to all the musicians, this is really a band! Yes it surely is! And a fabulous band with much originality!

Questo disco è la sintesi di 30 anni di esperimenti compositivi mai portati a compimento prima.
Negli ultimi mesi, grazie alla proposta di Vittorio Bartoli e di Roberto Lioli di registrare un disco, sono riuscito a ritrovare un filo conduttore che mi ha permesso di proseguire la strada compositiva smarrita in precedenza.
“Un nuovo inverno” e “Di neve lenzuola” sono i due brani che hanno atteso di più per vedere la luce. Avendoli sempre approcciati in una chiave musicale più commerciale, non ne sono mai stato entusiasta particolarmente, ma grazie alla formazione del quartetto jazz classico e dei musicisti di cui ne fanno parte, sono riuscito a trovare l’ispirazione per dare ai miei brani la veste musicale necessaria.
Volevo che in ognuna delle tracce si avvertissero chiaramente tutti i miei ascolti e i Maestri che mi hanno sempre guidato, e grazie sia a Lorenza che è stata di forte ispirazione anche a livello compositivo, e sia alla conoscenza ed apertura musicale di Yazan e Francesco, penso di esserci riuscito.
Mi auguro che ascoltandolo vi doni le stesse emozioni che ha fatto vivere a noi in fase di creazione e registrazione.
